New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo continues to defy age and expectations. At 41, the Portuguese superstar found the net once again, scoring his 978th career goal to help Al Nassr secure a thrilling 2-1 victory over Al Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League.
The victory marked Al Nassr’s fourth consecutive league win and helped the club retain its position at the top of the standings.
Al Nassr endured a difficult start to the contest after Al Taawoun took the lead in the 11th minute. Mohammed Bassam Al-Huraiji finished a promising move to put the visitors 1-0 ahead and put Al Nassr under early pressure.
The home side responded before half-time. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Samuel Costa produced a fine finish to restore parity and send the teams into the interval level at 1-1.
Ronaldo Delivers Once Again
Ronaldo made his decisive contribution early in the second half.
In the 50th minute, Joao Felix created an attacking move down the left before finding Mohamed Simakan. Simakan unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the box, with Ronaldo making a clever touch from close range to redirect the ball into the net.
The goal was officially recorded as Ronaldo’s 978th of his professional career.
Interestingly, replays suggested that Simakan’s original effort was already heading towards goal, making Ronaldo’s slight touch an unexpected intervention. Simakan appeared momentarily surprised during the ensuing celebration.
Full 90 Minutes for the Portuguese Star
Ronaldo remained on the pitch for the entire match and played a key role as Al Nassr protected its advantage to claim all three points.
His latest performance came just days after Al Nassr produced another dramatic comeback against Al Ettifaq. Trailing 2-0, the team scored three goals during the final 16 minutes to complete a 3-2 victory. Ronaldo was substituted during that match.
Against Al Taawoun, however, the veteran forward completed the full 90 minutes and once again proved his enduring importance to the Saudi club.
At 41, Ronaldo’s continued goalscoring form remains one of the standout stories of world football, with the veteran forward showing little sign of slowing down.
